Our Process

I once read a business book that proclaimed, “if you’re not going to be the best in the world, don’t even start”. I’ve taken those words to heart. I’ve put a lot of thought into the construction of my gig bags and want to let you in on the process. We start with the leather. We only use Full Grain leather. A quick tutorial on leather:

Full Grain leather is the best. This is the top layer of the hide that has all of the grain remaining. This is the most durable leather, it lasts forever. The thing I like best about it is its patina changes with time. As you use it and break it in it keeps looking better.

Genuine leather is second on our list. This is the remaining leather once the full grain is stripped away. Good stuff, but not up to Whipping Post standards.

Bonded leather is cheap. If Full Grain leather is the filet of the hide, Bonded is the hot dog.

Each piece is hand sewn with heavy duty marine grade threading. The stuff they use on sails. Every stitch is meticulously sewn. We limit the number of seams so there are as few stress points as possible.

We use a full inch of high density foam to protect your guitar. As you know, woods on guitars are highly sensitive to heat and cold. This is why we use the thickest Full Grain leather we can find then back it up with an inch of high density foam. Both leather and foam are terrific insulators. We then line all of our bags with a plush interior that will be especially gentle on your guitar’s finish. We also include a full grain leather bridge and headstock protector on the inside.

All of our hardware is stainless steel. No need to worry about durability or rust issues with these.

The backpack straps on our bag are fully removable and can be turned into a side strap if you prefer to throw it over your shoulder. All of our straps are full grain leather as well. If you get a chance, take a look at some of my competitors back straps. This is where a lot of people cut corners using canvas straps to save money. Not us.

Our bags ain’t cheap, but they are a lifetime investment on your part so we’ve built them to last that long…..and then some.
