I stumbled across a news story the other day detailing the proposed pardon of Jim Morrison stemming from indecent exposure charges in 1969. Seems a little late, but hey, it took the Vatican 350 years to pardon Galileo.
Anyways, this got me thinking about the Doors. "The Best of the Doors" was my first CD purchase in the 5th grade. I can remember it vividly. My Grandfather had just passed away so I took a week off from school, primarily to sit around his house and watch MTV. All week long MTV ran constant promotions for The Doors movie starring Val Kilmer. I wasn't allowed to see the movie, but I got their CD. I loved the music and to this day I can see how that chance exposure to their music sent my musical tastes on a whole new trajectory.
I don't listen to the Doors much anymore, but I'm thankful for their music and influence on my own sensibilities. For this much I will throw all of my political clout behind his pardon.
